Departure – May 1st

We have finished our exams and are set to leave for Chile on Sunday May 1st. This is the largest UBC grad class research trip ever with 36 students attending.

Early highlights of the trip include a tour of the presidential palace and a meeting with the Chilean Minister of Mines. We will then visit the the Advanced Mining Technology Centre at the Universidad de Chile (http://www.amtc.cl/) before touring CODELCO’s block caves near Santiago. The second half of trip will take place in the Atacama desert where we will visit some of the world’s largest open pit copper operations.

Thanks very much to all of our sponsors, hosts, and everyone else who has provided assistance in the planning of the trip during the past 8 months.
